“In my four years at Seton Hill we have only properly focused on the mental side of the game in the last year and a half. The team had just failed to qualify for playoffs and then the pandemic started and we needed a committed group to provide a good turnaround. This is why we shifted our focus to the mental side of the game. We had meetings and exercises within the team to all establish a common goal between us and create a closer bond within the group. Recovery sessions including yoga and meditation became more frequent and the bond between the team grew closer and closer. I feel I've always been a mentally strong and adaptable person however coming to the US provided different obstacles. The level and work we put in was nothing I hadn't seen before but the relentlessness and constant competitiveness on a day-to-day basis was challenging. Not being able to find consistent results in practice had me questioning myself, which is natural. Mental challenges occur daily and cannot be fully controlled, but I feel now from having a better focus on mental training I can control as much as possible and be prepared for challenges that come my way. Our recovery sessions, including yoga and meditation have become a key form of preparation for the entire team and we have grown stronger and benefitted massively on and off the pitch from it.”

“Throughout our years chatting I have brought up issues such as sleep, relaxation, diet, nervousness before games and general control of nerves. We have had many chats trying to mature me quickly and becoming in control of myself. As a coach you have suggested to find "a ritual" before our games, and to focus my mind on the task at hand and trying to rid my thoughts of things I can’t control to get rid of the nervousness and to get better sleep and being able to relax. As a result of generally helping me to focus on the task at hand, my sleep and relaxation got better, my energy was higher, causing my energetic personality to shine through more often both in practice, games and even off the field. I would say that because of you my mindset grew from contempt with being a good player to obsessed with becoming the best player I could/can be. As a result of our one on one chats and you’re chats to the team I have definitely evolved into more of a leader and competitor, a winner as you would say.”
